Description

The PM410 Anti-Corrosion Pressure Transmitter is a specialized sensing solution engineered for the most demanding industrial environments. In applications involving aggressive chemicals, strong acids, or abrasive slurries, standard stainless steel (316L) sensors often suffer from membrane pitting or chemical degradation. The PM410 solves this by utilizing a 99.6% Al₂O₃ high-purity ceramic core paired with a rugged PTFE (Teflon) or PVDF housing.

Advanced “Dry Cell” Technology

Unlike traditional silicon-on-sapphire or oil-filled sensors, the PM410 utilizes a “dry” ceramic measuring cell. The pressure of the medium acts directly on the robust ceramic diaphragm, which undergoes a slight, measurable deformation. Because there are no internal fill oils (such as silicone oil), there is zero risk of process contamination should the diaphragm be damaged. This makes the PM410 the ideal choice for high-purity chemical processes and the pharmaceutical industry.

Engineered for Chemical Compatibility

The combination of a ceramic sensing face and a PTFE/PVDF body offers near-universal chemical resistance. This transmitter is specifically designed to handle:

  • Strong Acids: Sulfuric acid ($H_2SO_4$), Hydrochloric acid ($HCl$), and Nitric acid.

  • Oxidizing Agents: Chlorine solutions and bleach used in water disinfection.

  • Harsh Industrial Media: Wastewater containing heavy metals or abrasive particles that would scratch softer metal diaphragms.

Reliability in Fluctuating Temperatures

Equipped with a high-reliability amplifier circuit and active temperature compensation (0°C to 70 °C), the PM410 ensures linear and stable data even in outdoor installations or variable process temperatures. Whether you are monitoring tank levels in a Ticino-based chemical plant or pipe pressure in a Mediterranean desalination facility, the PM410 delivers the precision required for modern automated systems.

Features

  • Exceptional Chemical Resistance: Fully wetted PTFE/PVDF parts provide immunity to strong acids, bases, and oxidizers.

  • Dry Ceramic Technology: High-purity Alumina (Al₂O₃) diaphragm offers superior hardness and resistance to abrasion compared to metal.

  • Swiss-Ready Integration: Standard RS485 Modbus or 4–20 mA signals ensure seamless connectivity with VFDs, PLCs, and SCADA systems.

  • Active Temperature Compensation: Integrated circuitry ensures accuracy across a -10°C to 70°C compensated range.

  • Safety & Durability: Features anti-interference and anti-surge protection, with optional Intrinsically Safe (Exia IICT6) versions for hazardous areas.

FAQ

Q1: Why should I use a Ceramic sensor instead of Stainless Steel?

A: Standard stainless steel (316L) diaphragms corrode quickly when exposed to aggressive media like hydrochloric acid, bleach (sodium hypochlorite), or high-salinity water. The PM410 uses a 99.6% Al₂O₃ Ceramic core, which is chemically inert and physically harder than steel, making it resistant to both corrosion and abrasion from suspended solids.

Q2: What is the difference between PTFE and PVDF housing options?

A: Both are high-performance plastics. PTFE (Teflon) offers the broadest chemical resistance and can handle higher temperatures. PVDF is mechanically stronger and more resistant to abrasion. For most strong acid applications in Swiss wastewater or chemical plants, PTFE is the recommended standard.

Q3: Can the PM410 be used for tank level measurement?

A: Yes. By choosing the IP68 protection rating and the Liquid Level Outlet (Code 413), the PM410 can be submerged directly into chemical tanks to measure level based on hydrostatic pressure.

Q4: Is the PM410 compatible with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)?

A: Absolutely. The PM410 is available with a 4–20 mA analog output or RS485 Modbus RTU. You can connect the sensor directly to an INVT VFD to create a “closed-loop” system, allowing the drive to automatically adjust pump speed based on chemical pressure or level.

Q5: Does the sensor require special maintenance in chemical environments?

A: Because the ceramic diaphragm is “dry” (no internal oil filling), it is very low-maintenance. However, we recommend checking the PTFE interface periodically for crystal buildup if used with highly concentrated fluids. The sensor’s high-purity ceramic surface is easy to clean without damaging the calibration.

Q6: Is this sensor certified for use in Switzerland?

A: Yes, the PM410 is fully CE and RoHS compliant. For hazardous environments, an Intrinsically Safe (Exia IICT6) version is available upon request to meet local safety regulations.
